Hundreds of kids ring in new year in New Rochelle

For grown-ups, celebrating the new year usually means staying up late and sipping champagne.

But kids like to ring in the new year, too, and in New Rochelle last week, hundreds of youngsters showed up at New Roc City to do just that.

Twelve hours before the real thing, a countdown was held at noon with a balloon drop. Families who turned out for the celebration enjoyed games, crafts, karate and face painting.

The free event was sponsored by business owners at New Roc City. Organizers said they hope to turn the celebration into an annual event.
