Missing Brewster dog recovered

A dog missing for seven months has been found, following a passionate campaign by her owner to find her.

Brewster resident Claire Albahae lost her dog Gertie in October while they were hiking at Fahnestock State Park. Albahae said she estimates she put up around 500 missing dog posters throughout Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties following Gertie's disappearance.

After nearly giving up hope following the cold winter, Albahae got a phone call from Todd Zahra, who spotted Gertie while he was at work. Zahra contacted Albahae, after finding her number on one of the posters, and a trap was set up to catch her dog. Albahae said it's wonderful she has Gertie back, calling her rescue a "miracle."

Albahae offered a $500 reward to Zahra for finding Gertie, but he declined the money.
