Local PD to increase Indian Point patrols

Buchanan police say they will be increasing their patrols near the Indian Point power plant in the wake of the death of Osama bin Laden, not only because of the concern of retaliation attacks by terrorist groups, but to also provide a greater sense of security to the nearby public.

Parts of the Indian Point nuclear plant were once open to the public, but have since been surrounded by barb wire-topped fences and a security check point since the fall of the twin towers on 9/11.

In addition to increased police patrols, the plant also receives security in the form of the Westchester County Police and the Coast Guard's naval units. County Spokesman Ned McCormack says that "in light of recent events, we have increased those patrols and taken other security measures."
