Bio-tech firms to bring jobs, labs to Yonkers, HV

A growing number of bio-tech firms are bringing new laboratories and jobs to the Hudson Valley, with the latest settling in to new offices in downtown Yonkers. ContraFect is a firm that researches ways to fight drug-resistant infections, such as MRSA. Founder Robert Nowinski says he was introduced to Yonkers' business community by Mayor Phil Amicone as part of the city's Business Week activities.

Nowinski says that his company chose Yonkers over other potential sites partially because of its close proximity to colleges and universities in New York City. ContraFect is expected to bring some 200 new jobs alone, adding that it is not the only bio-tech firm to set up shop locally.
