Carmel woman hit, killed by truck on I-684

Police say a Carmel woman was fatally struck by an 18-wheeler as she walked along I-684 in North Salem early this morning after getting into an argument with her boyfriend.

Police say Danielle Martinez, 26, was in a car driven by 28-year-old Jesse Stocker, also of Carmel. They say the two had an argument and Martinez demanded to be let out of the vehicle.

Detectives say Martinez began walking along the northbound lanes of the highway, waving her arms. Police say they received numerous reports from passing drivers about a person in the middle of the highway.

Authorities say Martinez was fatally struck by a truck in the right lane at around 1:30 a.m. They say Stocker tried to go back to the scene, but Martinez had already been hit.

Police say the Mississippi truck driver is not expected to be charged or ticketed, although the accident remains under investigation.
