State AG launches probe into pains at the pump

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced yesterday that his office will be conducting a thorough review of the steadily increasing gas prices in the NYC metro area. "Drivers across the metro area, from Westchester to Queens to Nassau County, have a right to know how gas prices are determined, and whether they are being taken for [a] ride," Schneiderman said in a release. Costs in the five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester and Rockland counties will be analyzed against the current national average price of gas, which AAA puts at $3.96 for a gallon of regular.

Schneiderman says his office is already gathering data from throughout the region, and that it will release any relevant findings as soon as possible.
