WC legislator denies retirement rumors, announces bid

One savvy septuagenarian from Yonkers has dispelled rumors that she will not seek re-election in her position as county legislator this year.

Bernice Spreckman, who has represented Westchester's 14th District since 1995, announced today that she will seek another term in the position that she loves. "I love what I do, helping people, working for people, that is my job," Spreckman said, adding that it's people, and not politics, who make a real impact on her.

Spreckman, a longtime Yonkers resident and Republican who first got into politics in 1977, says if she's elected, she will continue her advocacy for local seniors, while maintaining that local budgets need to be tightened in today's economic climate.
