Police probe brutal assault in W. Haverstraw

Police are investigating an assault that left a man in serious condition in West Haverstraw.

Investigators say two men entered Peter Kang's moving business and demanded money around 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kang hesitated and the two men beat him with a 35-pound dumbbell and tried to tape his mouth shut.

Police say the only reason he likely survived is because he tried to fight back.

The assault spilled out onto the street where the two men were caught on surveillance camera.

The two men got away and Kang was able to stumble into a nearby deli and call police.

The assailants are described as black, 6' tall, slender and in their late-20s.

Anyone with information is asked to call Haverstraw police.
