Hartsdale resident accused of trying to run over NYPD officer

A Hartsdale resident is under arrest after an incident in Manhattan?s Washington Square Park involving the NYPD.

Police say Joseph Dellurti approached the officers and began an argument with them at the park as they were arresting three men suspected of drug dealing. Dellurti proceeded to get into his van and drove it straight at one of the officers, pinning him against a fence. He tried to hit him again, but the officer was able to shield himself behind a tree.

Officials say two of the drug suspects were able to escape during the incident.

Dellurti is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation and has been charged with numerous crimes, including vehicular assault. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office says the charges may be upgraded to attempted murder.
