Mamaroneck standoff ends peacefully; suspect in custody

Police say a seven-hour standoff in Mamaroneck ended peacefully tonight as the man who barricaded himself inside his home was taken into custody.

Cops say the man had fought with his wife earlier this afternoon and she then called police, leading to the standoff at the Woodbine Avenue home.

The incident led to many homes and businesses in the area being evacuated. Mamaroneck High School was placed on lockdown for a short time until students could be dismissed from an alternate exit for their safety.

Police say they aren't sure if the man had a weapon inside his home, but that no one was injured during the incident.

Officials say the man was taken to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation.
