Police: Man arrested in attack of Yonkers mayor's aide

Police say one man has been arrested and a second is on the loose after the brother of an aide to the Yonkers mayor was viciously attacked outside of a Yonkers bar and restaurant.

Robert Lopez is in critical condition after being attacked by two men outside of Sal's Bar and Restaurant on Nepperhan Avenue around 5 a.m. yesterday.

Investigators say Lopez, the brother of Yonkers mayoral aide Lorraine Lopez, left the bar after a patron came inside and began causing a scene. When he exited the bar, that's when police say he was attacked.

Police say they've arrested 21-year-old Benis Melendez, of Yonkers, but the second suspect is still at large. Investigators don't believe Lopez was involved with the disturbance inside of the bar.

Investigators describe the second suspect as a white male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 160 pounds with red hair and a shamrock tattoo on his right forearm.

Anyone with information is asked to call Yonkers police at 914-377-7725.
