Exec. Astorino vetoes legislative-redistricting plan

County Executive Rob Astorino (R-Westchester) has vetoed a controversial redistricting plan for legislative districts.

On a party line vote last week, the Democratic-controlled Legislature approved the plan 12-5, but quickly faced harsh criticism from the independent League of Women Voters.

Among the changes, the plan moves Westchester County Board Chairman Ken Jenkins' Yonkers home into his district and splits the City of Peekskill and the Town of Harrison. Astorino called the redistricting flawed and rushed.

Jenkins vowed to override the veto, calling the new voting lines both fair and hard to fault.
