Packed house for final public hearing on Yonkers budget

More than 700 school employees, including teachers, teacher's aides and others, have already received pink slips, meaning they will be without a job come next school year.

Students helped filled the auditorium at Saunders High School, pleading with district administrators to save their sports programs, which are due to be cut entirely under the current proposed budget.

The current proposed budget, which also eliminates many bus routes, pre-K education and after-school activities, will also come with a nearly 5-percent tax increase.1,000 rally over Yonkers school budget
