Yonkers native pleads guilty to fatally shooting wife

An Army private from Yonkers has pleaded guilty in military court to accidentally shooting and killing his 20-year-old wife, also from Yonkers, at their home on a Louisiana Army base.

Pvt. Louis Ortiz pleaded guilty in the death of his wife, Samantha Zippo Ortiz, after he says a loaded shotgun accidentally went off in the home that they shared on the Fort Polk Army Base.

Damon Zippo, Samantha's father, says that Ortiz's sentence to 38 months is like a slap in the face, but added that his daughter used her last words in the ambulance to clear her husband's name, saying that it was all an accident.
