Novice truck driver slams into WC overpass, snarls traffic

A novice driver and poorly worded directions are being blamed for an early morning crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway that snarled traffic well into the morning commute.

The tractor-trailer carrying Bose electronic equipment slammed into the King Street overpass in the northbound lanes of the parkway around 2 a.m. after the driver, who only has a few months of driving experience, mistakenly thought he was getting onto I-95.

The roof of the truck was peeled back like a sardine can, causing boxes full of expensive electronics to spill onto the roadway. All northbound lanes had to be shut down until just after 7:30 a.m., when crews were able to allow one lane of traffic to reopen. All lanes have since reopened.
