AAA: Holiday 'Getaway Day' travel will be busier, pricier
It's the Friday before Memorial Day, and for many Americans, today is more commonly referred to as "Getaway Day," and if experts are correct, this year's getaway holiday will be busier, and more expensive.
AAA says that after a rough winter, many Americans are looking to hit the road for the long weekend, with nearly 35 million travelers projected to drive 50 miles or more from home. That statistic is approximately 100,000 more people on the roads than last year at the same time.
While gas prices are down with respect to recent averages, the average cost of a gallon of regular gas at this time last year was just under $3, while this year it will cost an average $4.07.News 12 Westchester Gas Gauge
