Yonkers pays early Memorial Day tribute

Dozens gathered in Yonkers yesterday to pay an early tribute to those who lost their lives serving in wars past and present as a way of extending the Memorial Day holiday.

Dr. Norbert Sanders, of Yonkers, was one of the mourners at Lennon Park yesterday afternoon, and described his personal connection to the solemn holiday. "It's important because it shows honor to all men and women who have served, and those who were lost. We're here particularly because of my uncle ? who served and lost his life in World War II, and my brother who served in Vietnam and died after that." This is the 30th year for the Memorial Day service at Lennon park, sponsored by the North Yonkers Preservation and Development Corporation.
