Plan to bring back all-day Mahopac kindergarten nixed

A plan to bring back full-day kindergarten classes in Mahopac after some 15 years has been voted down due to budget issues, but parents in the district say that the move will wind up hurting the students.

"Put your money where your mouth is! Full-day kindergarten will improve the district," said Putnam County Legislator Tony Fusco.

The plan to restore full-day classes was defeated by a vote of 6-3, with board members saying that they simply could not afford to bring back the classes. Fusco argues that with a combination of non-essential cuts and an influx of state funding, the program could easily be put back in place.
