Wounded NYPD officer from West Harrison promoted to detective

An NYPD officer who was shot in the line of duty last year was moved up the ranks today.

Officer Robert Salerno took to the stage at police headquarters to accept his promotion to detective. The 26-year-old from West Harrison just recently returned to work after being shot three times including once in the chest. He had to learn to walk again and is still partially paralyzed in his right foot.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg congratulated Salerno and thanked him for the risks he takes to keep the city safe.
