Orange County native rises to top of U.S. military

An Orange County native is soon expected to lead the Joint Chiefs of Staff and become the country's top ranking military officer.

President Barack Obama announced the selection of Greenwood Lake's Army Gen. Martin Dempsey in the Rose Garden of the White House. Dempsey went to high school at Burke Catholic High School in Goshen and graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Festivities are now being planned to honor Dempsey's promotion and career in downtown Greenwood Lake.
