More than 80 cats have been rescued from a Greenburgh home where officials say they were found confined to small cages.
The cats were removed from a house at 55 Riverdale Ave. in Greenburgh. Officials say the cats were found in small dark rooms, and some were found lying in their own feces.
"The room was filthy," says Human Society member Dana Rocco. "Flies, debris everywhere. It's like living in the middle of a garbage can." Rocco says some of the cats have also suffered hair loss from a skin infection that went untreated.
A woman suffering from cancer lives at the home with her adult daughter. They told News 12 off-camera that they had recently fallen on hard times, with the house they were living in condemned and in foreclosure. The woman's daughter says she had been trying to rescue the cats and find homes for them.
