Westchester Republicans have nominated Yorktown Councilman Terrence Murphy to succeed state Sen. Greg Ball (R-40th District), though there is still a chance there may be a primary.

Ball announced last week that he will not seek re-election and will be returning to the private sector. Ball personally chose Murphy to replace him and Murphy received the official party backing when he won the vote Monday night at the Westchester County Republican Convention. His opponent was former Assemblyman Robert Castelli, who says he is still considering whether he will run anyway. A primary election would be needed if he does.

Reports have circulated that Ball is leaving his seat because he may be under investigation by the U.S. attorney, an accusation Ball denies.

The Republican candidate will face Democrat Justin Wagner, who lost to Ball two years ago.
