Group seeks probe into crash that critically hurt officer
An advocacy group is calling for an independent investigation in a car accident that critically injured a Pelham Manor police officer.
The Committee on Public Integrity says a special prosecutor should be appointed to investigate the accident, which left officer Michael Tillistrand with severe brain injuries after he was hit at the intersection of Boston Post Road and Edgewood Avenue last month.
The advocacy group claims Jillian Ruggiero, the daughter of Pelham Manor's fire chief, was texting on her cell phone when the accident happened. They say the investigation not only poses a conflict of interest for the Pelham Manor Police Department, but that investigators are covering it up.
Tillistrand is presently recovering in a rehabilitation hospital. Pelham Manor cop hit by car in critical condition
