Investigators: Nepperhan Ave. fire deemed suspicious
Fire officials are investigating a suspicious fire overnight in Yonkers.
Investigators say the fire at 1307 Nepperhan Ave. last night looks like it was intentionally set. They say there were actually two fires, with evidence of one in the bedroom and another in the kitchen.
Police say they have been to the house to talk to the couple who lives there before but wouldn't elaborate any further.
The male resident of the house told News 12 that his girlfriend's cigarette may have started the fire. The man said he was questioned by detectives for five hours overnight, but no charges were filed. His girlfriend was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and released.
The couple is back living in the home despite having no heat.
