Kent woman killed by falling utility pole during storm

Police say a Kent woman died Saturday evening when she was crushed by a falling utility pole during the freak October snowstorm. Investigators say Frances Byrne, 48, was out walking her dog when a nearby tree faltered under the weight of the wet, heavy snow. The tree dragged down power lines and caused a nearby utility pole to snap. The pole crushed Byrne, killing her. Byrne's body wasn't discovered until Sunday, when NYSEG crews were surveying local damage. The woman's husband was at work when she was killed, police say. Her leashed dog was waiting in front of the home when police arrived.
