Yorktown center provides warmth, food to those without power

For thousands of people across the Hudson Valley, it's day five of no electricity and no hot water.

The warming center at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center on Commerce Street is one of many facilities providing people with a place to sleep plus food and drink.

Some facilities also are providing places to shower and to charge batteries and cell phones.

Nearly 30 people slept at the Yorktown center last night.

Volunteers running shelters and warming centers say many people are hesitant to ask for help, but they are urging people without power to take advantage of the service.
