Tractor-trailer overturns on I-684 causing traffic nightmare

A tractor-trailer overturned on I-684 just before exit 2 this morning, blocking all southbound lanes during the commute.

Police say the driver of the truck lost control, flipped over onto its side and crashed into a guardrail around 6:15 a.m. near the County Airport.

Investigators say the driver was not hurt. However, a passenger suffered minor injuries, but is expected to be OK.

At one point the wreck blocked all southbound lanes and traffic was backed up as much as 8 miles. Eventually police were able to open up two lanes while crews worked the scene.

The truck, which was labeled Expert Movers out of Danbury, Conn. spilled much of its contents of clothes and furniture onto the highway.

A big container was brought in and workers piled everything in there. Police say while some items suffered damage, some of the cargo is salvageable.
