Neighbors of alleged Tappan Zee dangler shocked by protest

Neighbors of Michael Davitt say they are shocked that he would dangle himself off the Tappan Zee Bridge today in protest of the Rockland County government.

"He's a really good person," says neighbor Jamal White. "I never expected that."

According to neighbors, Davitt, who lives in a home on Morton Street, recently separated with his wife, Flora.

"He's a very, very good neighbor," says Jackie DiNuzzo. "Quiet. Lays low."

Officials say that Davitt was well-known due to his increasingly bizarre behavior at county legislative meetings.

According to officials, Davitt was laid off from his job as a drug counselor with the county government in 2008, and combined with his recent separation with his wife, it may have been what led him to protest as he did today.
