Spano will replace current Republican Mayor Phil Amicone, who was term-limited.

He won a three-way race against Republican City Councilman John Murtagh and businessman Carlo Calvi, who was running on the Independence Party line.

Spano had faced a number of questions during the race about his past as a state assemblyman and his connections with his family, known as a political powerhouse in the area.
