Cops: Would-be robber thwarted by dogs in West Harrison home

A burglar escaped a West Harrison home last night after getting caught in the hallway by the resident's dogs, only to be tracked down and arrested by police.

Doug Harrison says he was in his Lakeview Avenue home when he heard his two dogs barking and his wife talking to someone. He went into the hallway and found a man, identified as 29-year-old Lawrence Morrison, holding a crowbar, some rope and a plastic bag.

Morrison escaped the house, but Harrison called the police and followed the man to another house on Park Avenue. Harrison stayed on his cell phone with police until they arrived and arrested the suspect, confiscating bags of evidence as well.

Police say Morrison has an extensive criminal record.

Morrison was arraigned today and is due back in court tomorrow.
