Police: Armed man tries to kill self by jumping off Tappan Zee

Police say a man threatened to commit suicide off the Tappan Zee Bridge early Saturday.

Officials say the man drove back and forth across the bridge before running out of gas and then threatened police with a gun until he was subdued. Authorities say the man was high on drugs at the time of the incident.

This marks the third incident on the bridge in just over a week.

Last Monday, Michael Davitt suspended himself off the bridge in protest of the Rockland County government and on Nov. 5 a woman tried to jump off the bridge.

Experts say the increased incidents on the bridge are a sign of tough economic times."There is a lot more depression out there and for some people, maybe the only solution they see is just ending it all," says Ellyn Rabinowitz.
