Astorino's budget plan looks to eliminate 367 jobs

County Executive Rob Astorino (R-Westchester) unveiled a budget proposal today that would eliminate more than 300 county jobs.

If the $1.7 billion budget is approved, 367 county jobs would be eliminated as of Jan. 1, 2012. Of that number, 210 would be layoffs of current Westchester employees.

The proposal includes $100 million in spending cuts to county programs and services.

On the positive side, the proposal does not carry any increase in the county property tax levy.

The County Board can still make changes to the budget, which needs to be in place by Dec. 27.

Three public meetings have been scheduled on the budget, with the first taking place in New Rochelle on Nov. 22.
