Cop struck during Pelham Manor traffic stop

A Pelham Manor police officer was rushed into surgery at Jacobi Medical Center in The Bronx tonight after being struck by a car during a traffic stop.

Police say it happened at around 6:30 p.m. near Boston Post Road and Edgewood Avenue. They say a man struck the officer at a traffic stop as he spoke to the driver of another car he had just pulled over.

Authorities have not yet released the officer's identity. The suspect has not been charged but is currently speaking with police.

Officials say that the incident appears to be a tragic accident with darkness and rain being contributing factors. They say the incident remains under investigation.
