Peekskill board OKs outside lunches for some students

Peekskill High School juniors and seniors will be allowed off campus during their lunch hour after a 3-2 vote by the Board of Education.

The vote settles a debate that had been raging over the issue since new Peekskill School District Superintendent Dr. James Willis decided to have a closed campus, citing concerns for student safety.

In order to leave campus at lunch, juniors and seniors must be in good standing and get a signed waiver from a parent or guardian.

However, the new policy will expire at the end of the school year, when trustees say they'll explore other options and possibly even stricter rules for the next school year. Peekskill High School students could be closed in
