Cops: Mahopac murder-suicide was result of love triangle

Police say a murder-suicide that happened in Mahopac last night appears to be the result of a love triangle. Investigators say 56-year-old Michael Purdy, a Town of Carmel highway employee and volunteer firefighter, returned to his rented cottage last night in Mahopac with a woman he was seeing. That's when the woman's estranged husband, 47-year-old Michael Boccardi, jumped out of the bushes and shot Purdy in the head, police say. Boccardi then jumped into his wife's car, demanding she drive off. Police say the woman tried to calm him down, but Boccardi then took the gun and shot himself in the head. Grief counselors have been called in to help town employees cope with the loss of two coworkers. Police say the incident remains under investigation.
