School bus driver arrested after unreported crash

A school bus driver is in hot water after he failed to a report an accident that happened in Peekskill with a bus full of young children this morning, officials say. Police say there were 21 Hillcrest Elementary School students aboard a bus driven by Joaquim Sherwood, 25, when the bus was in a minor collision. The accident happened near Peekskill High School, at the corner of Elm and Depew streets.Investigators say the driver stopped after the crash, but instead of calling police, he continued on his route. Peekskill Superintendent James Willis says as soon as the school learned of the crash, parents were notified and all of the students were taken to the hospital to be examined. None of the children were seriously injured, he says. Officials with Yonkers-based Mile Square Transportation, which owns the bus, refused to comment.Police say Sherwood has been arrested and is facing criminal charges.
