Mount Vernon mourns the loss of Heavy D

Heavy D was loved by many in his hometown community of Mount Vernon.

Born in Jamaica, Dwight Arrington Myers moved to Mount Vernon with his parents and five brothers and sisters in the 70s.

He was praised for his positive, clean raps which he was well known for.

While he made it to the big time, fans say Heavy D never forgot his roots, often giving a shout out to his hometown in songs, like one of his biggest hits "Money Earning Mount Vernon."

The family of Heavy D has started a foundation in support of his daughter, 12-year-old Xea.
