Autopsy to be done on remains found in Yonkers

The Westchester medical examiner is performing an autopsy on the remains found in a suitcase in the woods near a cemetery in Yonkers.

Investigators are trying to determine if the remains are human.

It was just after 1:30 p.m. Monday when DPW workers clearing out a wooded area near St. Mary's Cemetery noticed a suitcase. They also noticed a foul odor, so detectives were called to the area. When they unlocked the luggage, they found decomposing remains.

The investigation is ongoing.
