WC residents express outrage over proposed budget

Westchester residents packed into New Rochelle High School tonight to voice their outrage over the cuts and layoffs proposed in the county executive's proposed 2012 budget.

Residents are pushing for legislators to help restore the millions of dollars in funding cuts to programs like community health centers. They are also concerned about County Executive Rob Astorino's (R-Westchester) plan to lay off more than 200 workers.

Astorino defends his budget by saying his goal was to make good on his pledge not to raise property taxes and keep the county's triple-A bond rating.

County lawmakers plan to hold two additional public meetings on the proposed budget.
