Yonkers police arrest man suspected in dog-fighting ring

Police in Yonkers have arrested a dog owner for allegedly starving five pit bulls and training them to fight.

The Westchester SPCA says Louis Urias, of Yonkers, was training the dogs to win him big cash at illegal dog fights.

The SPCA is trying to help the animals recover. It says the dogs have clearly been trapped in cages for a long time, covered in feces and with body sores, and have long sharp nails. The dogs are visibly emaciated and are at least 20 pounds underweight. The scars on the dogs' bodies indicate the puncture wounds that result from dog fighting.

Urias has been charged with five counts of animal cruelty.
