Business owners are looking forward to Small Business Saturday

On one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, small business owners are looking forward to the second annual Small Business Saturday, a national day dedicated to promoting and supporting small businesses as opposed to the larger chains.

Ruth Hurd, who's owned the boutique Indigo in Hastings for the past 32 years, says she's anticipating a rush of customers Saturday after business being quiet the past few days. She says it's important to support smaller businesses, as they offer more personalized shopping services. Shoppers who frequent these smaller stores say they prefer it because it offers an experience they can't get at larger stores and it means supporting local shops.

"I like to support my hometown and the smaller stores," says Michael Carman, of Yonkers. "I think that's the way to move in this kind of world, to become more local and connected with people."
