Dozens evacuated in 2-alarm fire in downtown Hartsdale

Officials say about 60 people were evacuated while firefighters battled a two-alarm fire in downtown Hartsdale tonight. Police say the flames ignited in an apartment building located at 140 East Hartsdale Ave. Tenants gathered up their family members, pets and some belongings before evacuating while thick, dark smoke poured from the building.

No injuries were reported. At least three tenants were told they could not re-enter their aparments tonight because of smoke and water damage, officials say. Investigators say an elderly tenant's space heater may have sparked the fire.
