Man shot in stomach on Yonkers street

Police are trying to track down the person who shot a man on the streets of Yonkers last night.

Police say shots were fired just after 9 p.m. on Spruce and Cliff streets.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 27-year-old man who had been shot once in the abdomen. The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in The Bronx where he immediately underwent surgery. His exact condition is not known, but police say he is expected to survive.

Police say the area is known for drugs, violence and gang activity. In August, Yonkers police, with the help of the FBI, raided 13 locations including the Cliff and Spruce streets area where the street gang known as the Cliff Street Gangsters is known to operate.

Police say they're waiting for the victim to recover a bit from surgery so they can get details on exactly what happened. They are asking anyone with information to call their anonymous tip line (914) 377-7724.
