State lawmakers introduce Medicaid reform
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle in Albany introduced legislation today to introduce Medicaid reform to the state as a means to reduce taxes.
In Westchester, property taxes are the highest in the entire nation. Medicaid is also the single-largest expense in the Westchester County budget.
Under the proposal, counties would be able to phase out their Medicaid payments while the state takes over by reforming the program and taking in more money from the federal government.
For Westchester County, the budget could be lightened by $7 million for the first year alone.
Lawmakers say the savings could be passed onto residents as tax relief.
