Yonkers H.S. evacuated as police look for domestic violence suspect

Police locked down Sacred Heart High School in Yonkers today as they searched for a man wanted on domestic violence charges. Authorities say a family dispute had occurred three blocks from the school, but the suspect refused arrest. A neighbor reported that the suspect might have been spotted inside the school shortly before 4 p.m., prompting police to surround the buildings and search every classroom with K-9 units. "When I first heard about it, I didn't think it was that serious," senior Brian Crosby said. "But once I saw all the cops, I realized it was that serious." Students and faculty were told to evacuate the building, even though the school day had already ended. About 150 students and staff members were left outside, and several sports activities were canceled. Police did not find the suspect inside the school, which was reopened two hours later.
