Officials tying to piece together fatal NYC helicopter crash

Police and aviation officials are investigating the cause of a helicopter crash off New York City today that left one dead and three injured. The chopper took off from a helipad near 34th Street, experienced trouble and crashed into the East River while trying to turn around. The victim, a Portuguese woman visiting New York for her birthday, was trapped inside as the helicopter sank into water. On board were the woman's parents and partner, who were all pulled out by NYPD divers and rushed to local hospitals. "It's optional whether you have a flotation device," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. "They are very safe and most helicopters do not have them." The pilot, Paul Dudley, was not hurt in the crash. The woman's parents and partner are still hospitalized.Chopper raised out of NYC river after deadly crash
