Gasoline tanker explodes during delivery in Pelham

A gasoline tanker exploded while pulling into a Pelham gas station this morning.

Fire officals say the explosion happened around 2 a.m. at the Gulf Station on Parkway and Secor Lane, right near the Fairway supermarket.

Investigators say the driver told them he suddenly felt heat coming from somewhere in the truck so he and the gas station attendant, the only two people there at the time, took off running. That's when flames erupted from the tanker.

The fire then spread to the adjacent convenient store and auto body shop.

Firefighters also had to worry about the gas pumps and other fuel storage tanks above and below ground.

It took about 80 firefighters from several different departments about two hours to get everything under control.

Amazingly no one was injured.
