Child rescued after falling down well in Ardsley

A 10-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Friday night after plunging 20 feet down a well.

The boy was playing catch with friends on Lincoln Avenue when he went chasing after a ball that rolled into his neighbor's yard. The well had been covered by what appeared to be a lawn ornament, but the wood covering had rotted over time and crumbled when he stepped on it.

Rescuers were able to pull the boy out after about 20 minutes. Vinnie Coulehan, Ardsley's fire chief, says he was conscious, but cold and scared. He was taken to the hospital, but was not seriously hurt.
