Suspicious package shuts down New Rochelle intersection

A busy intersection was closed for more than two hours last night in New Rochelle after police and the Westchester County Bomb Squad investigated a suspicious package left in front of someone's residence.

Police closed down the intersection of Main Street and Allard Avenue last night as the investigation went on. According to police, the package was the size of a small foot locker and words written on the box implied dangerous items were inside. However, the package was deemed harmless and all that was inside was a bottle of laundry detergent.

One man was taken into custody, but police haven't released his name, where he lives, or his motive for leaving the package.

Traffic has since reopened at the intersection.
