Community festival held in Harrison

Columbus Day isn't only the holiday being celebrated today in Westchester. In Harrison, locals lined Halsted Avenue for the 34th annual It's Great to Live in Harrison Day parade and festival.

The day not only celebrates the town's Italian heritage, but the community itself. In addition to marching bands and cheerleaders in the parade, the festival also featured Italian cuisine such as pizza and sausage and peppers.

At this year's event, former Town Clerk Joe Acocella posthumously received the town's Citizen of the Year award. Acocella died in August at the age of 30 from kidney disease, and his sister is now getting people to register to be organ donors.
